TWO RIVERS…

This past week, we visited two rivers in two very different settings. Thea and I were in the gracious company of our daughter Saskia and her husband Kevin, birders who introduced us to countless species.

Together, we visited the Metolius and Deschutes rivers in Central Oregon, on the eastern edge of the Cascade range.

Here we are at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery on the Metolius river.

This little guy is an American Dipper (the only aquatic songbird in North America) looking for food at the water’s edge. The luminous color of the water can be found in cold mountain rivers throughout the Northwest.

Our next river visit could not have been a more different setting. Here, the Deschutes river passes alongside the Old Mill District of Bend, Oregon.

“Lunch anyone?”

“What surprise awaits us on the other side?”

Technically, this is somebody’s front yard…

A beautifully planned design provides a protected linear parkway along the Deschutes River.

Just a short drive away, we spent two nights in a rural lodge with cabins and the most restful setting in a Ponderosa Pine forest. There were critters in great abundance, along with an endless selection of delicious meals. It was a great way to spend time together and to celebrate Thea’s birthday!

That’s our short trip to two rivers. We hope you enjoyed the visit!

May life continue to bless you with short adventures of your own…

We’ll see you with the next Morning Glimpes!

Grace and peace to you,

Art Mills, photographer and writer, and Thea Mills, editor.
